Steak Night

Sirloin Steak, Twice Cooked Chips, Sautéed Mushrooms and Peppercorn Sauce

I can remember the first time I tried Steak. I remember thinking "Is this supposed to be this tough?" and...

"I'd like this so much more if it was soft and tender, with the chips, it would be perfect!"

Then I went on a on a mission to have the famous dish 'Steak & Chips' cooked to perfection. I went to countless restaurants and ordered 'Well Done' because I couldn't stand the thought of blood or pink meat.

Then as I matured I became more open to trying different foods. One time whilst I was out for a family meal, a few of us ordered steak and chips. I heard someone order it 'Medium Well/Medium' and was curious. I asked if this was recommended as the best way to have the steak, and the waiter agreed. I tried it and haven't looked back since.

If you've ever watched 'Hell's Kitchen' then you know about Gordon Ramsay's way of cooking steak, (If you haven't then where have you been! check it out here) I would always watch and try it out when it was my next steak night. I have got to a point know where I'm pretty proud of how I can cook steak. Using every tip I've picked up, whether it was from 'Hell's Kitchen' or 'Tasty' it's allowed me to make a restaurant quality steak right at home.

Here's a few of the steaks I've cooked and some I've eaten at restaurants, along with the tips to making a succulent steak dinner...

1. Before cooking your steak, ensure its been left at room temperature for 15 minutes.

2. Ensure the pan is hot before adding the oil to cook your steak.

3. When you have flipped the steak and its browned on both sides add 2 garlic cloves and thyme

to the pan along with butter. As the butter melts, baste the steak with the juices.

4. Let your steak rest! It prevents the juices from the steak going all over the plate when you cut it.
